This brings hope for significant change from the Trump 2020 regulations. We will continue to monitor as these regulations must prioritize student survivor rights and safety.

🎗️A brief history of SAAM 🎗️
From the 1940s and 1950s, alongside the civil rights movement, Black women and women of color led the charge against sexual violence, opening vital discussions on assault and domestic abuse.
By 1971, the first rape crisis center opened in San Francisco, marking a pivotal moment in the fight for survivor support, followed by the groundbreaking Take Back the Night event in 1978.
Years of relentless advocacy brought significant milestones, including the Violence Against Women Act of 1993.
Advocates held events, marches, and observances for years prior to the first nationally observed SAAM in 2001.

Join us and our friends at @SurvivorFundHub for our first Centering the Survivor Series. In this first installment, we will focus on the Economic & Emotional Hardships on Student Athletic Survivors.
We will focus on supporting student athletes and explore the economic and psychological/emotional hardships they face in the aftermath of sexual violence and how they find their own version of joy as part of their healing journey. As a critical juncture in their lives, many students are already on the precipice of economic hardship as they transition into adulthood after college. We recognize that athletes are often conditioned and trained to compartmentalize their trauma in order to bring home a win for their team, yet they may be unable to address their experiences due to the pervasive rape culture that exists in the sports world. While we eagerly await the pending Title IX regulations to be finalized and inclusive of the rights of student athletes, we want to discuss ways on how we can create a better ecosystem of support and empower student athletes through advocacy, resources, and community.
